Open-ended Encounters offers a reflection on the nature of encounters and the current forms of human interaction which, in the past months, have migrated en masse to the internet. How does this change to the condition of collectiveness affect aesthetics and technology? Encounters are potential “triggers” for the unpredictable, and they allow our subjectivities to be affected and transformed; being open to the other means one’s imagination is potentially open to new realities and new worlds. Open-ended Encountersis series of encounters that aims to investigate radical notions of alterity or otherness relative to other organisms, technologies, species, knowledge etc, springing from the desire to create permeability and informed by the recent collective experience of drastic social distancing measures, as well as the reconfiguration of the many forms of encounter.

Curated by aarea, Open-ended Encounters presents live online sessions in which artists reflect on their subjects of study and on the virtual format itself, by means of presentations and performances. The event will be hosted on the online platform/meeting place/work created by O grupo inteiro. Open-ended Encounters is a project of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and aarea in the context of the South America programme «COINCIDENCIA».
