Installation view Miss Chuquicamata, the Slag (2012)
This collective show exhibits the work of 30 artists gathered together in a body of photographs that record, allude to or operate in productive landscapes in Chile. The works are testimonies of territories that have been adapted, degraded, secured or mitigated, based on the current methods of extraction and production. “It seeks to represent the unfriendly landscape of Chile. This landscape does not only have to do with classical beauty, but with the implicit cultural interpretation in the look of the territory. Therefore, the landscape we sought was the one that occurs when economic activities or their consequences affect places. Predatory, extractivist, speculative or negligent practices with urban or extra-urban places”, highlights the curator of the exhibition, José Ignacio Vielma.
